As agreed with Miss Mad Katter of Pop From The Block, the interview with Miss Fefe Dobson would be split into two parts. Basically, Part 2 offers more insights from Fefe about the music industry. If you have not bought Stuttering on iTunes, please do so now! If you do read the blog on a constant basis, you know how much I loved Stuttering and the debut single for Fefe’s album Joy which is Ghost. The questions are in bold format while the answers are found below each question.
Any song that you would like to cover in the future?
Hmm.. maybe Miss Misery – Elliott Smith
Do you have any advice to people who want to break into the music industry?
Find what makes you unique, what sets you apart from other artists, and don’t give up!
Have you had any OOPS moments on stage?
I’m always splitting my pants! I’ve done it numerous times. The worst was when I was performing for the Canadian Embassy in Washington and I decided to wear rubber pants without anything underneath. I did a jump kick and the tights blew up like a balloon! Enough said. Ha
What do you think about people illegally downloading music all over the Internet? What do you think about its potential impact on your career and on the music that you painstakingly created?
Internet has become a curse and a blessing. Illegal downloading has definitely put a HUGE thorn in the way albums sell now a days, but at the same time in my opinion this whole issue was created because the consumers felt ripped off. Albums were being made with one or two good songs and the price of a hard copy became unnecessarily high. Young people work really hard to get that 20 dollar bill and they want to feel, when they decide to spend it, that they’re getting their moneys worth. But even more so, that they are being treated fairly – and when walking out of a record store, with just one album with one hot track and the rest a bunch of fillers in hand, and no money left to even buy a pack of gum – sounds like a shitty spend to me. To me internet represents choice… you can now listen to snippets of a whole record before you choose to put your card down. For instance I-tunes…which I LOVE!!! That to me is the way to go!
So there ARE positive LEGAL ways of getting music online! And for me, if I truly adore a band or album, I’ll trade in the online buy for a good ole record store purchase, because there’s nothing better than holding a hard copy. That’s why I adore vinyl but that’s a whole other experience in its own!
What can we expect from you in five years time?
More music for sure!
Obviously, this is the second part. Of course, I know you want to read the Part 1 of the Interview so click the link and have fun!
