Radioactive Single Review: Radioactive by Kings of Leon

Most of us know what happened about the band from Tennessee. From relatively unknowns in the music industry in terms of gaining mainstream attention that is, the band became a sensation after releasing their successful LP Only By The Night. The aforementioned LP spawned widely-acclaimed singles such as Sex On Fire and Use Somebody.

With the band now focusing its efforts on their upcoming LP Come Around Sundown, they have released the first single off from the said LP entitled Radioactive. The single may surprise people who expected the band to stay true to the sound of the singles that gained massive chart success.

After listening to the new single for the first play, I knew that the band tried to change things up. Radioactive seems to be carrying a gospel message that was not seen in Only By The Night. Caleb Followill’s vocals remain intact – by this, I mean the pitch is still there with all the crispness included.

Radioactive also sports faster drums of which I am a fan of. The gospel vibe in the track gets intensified with the choral backing which could be heard in the latter parts of the track.

So far, the only problem I could see is people may not like it immediately. Radioactive may not convince you right away to bang your head along with the band unlike Use Somebody or Sex On Fire but I have to say that the single is actually smooth. This is a track that shows change, if done the right way, could do some massive wonders. Overall, a track that should appease rock music lovers.
