So the story continues.
The second part of the massively successful Love The Way You Lie by Rihanna and Eminem has surfaced. Before I give my thoughts (or impressions as the title suggests) on ‘LTWYL Part II,’ I would like to recall some songs that have second parts released and give my thoughts about them:
1. Synchronicity II by The Police
Released in Synchronicity
There are two tracks with the name ‘Synchronicity’ included in The Police’s Synchronicity album. Synchronicity II, in my humble opinion, is an aggressive rock track which has great guitars in them. Besides, any song that manages to discuss Carl Jung’s theory of Synchronicty is deserving of praise.
2. Empire State of Mind Part II
Released in The Element of Freedom
Alicia Keys toned things down in Part II of the very successful Empire State of Mind which had Jay-Z rapping with aplomb in its Part I. Honestly, I did think that a ‘Part II’ should not have been made for this track. At times, artists have to know that a ‘Part II’ faces some big time odds when the matter of outdoing the original is concerned. ‘ESoM Part II’ is good in its own right but eventually, it just seemed all too contrived.
So what about ‘Love The Way You Lie Part II?’
Honestly, I did not expect Part II to beat the fantastic original and I was right. However, Part II is brilliant. Bloody brilliant. I also observed that Part II is toned down and you have to admit that Eminem’s rapping remains impressive. So here is the verdict: It is not better than Part I but it still is brilliant. Enough said.
Love The Way You Lie Part II is included in Rihanna’s forthcoming studio album Loud which is set for a November 12 release in the U.S.A and a November 15 release in the U.K. Have a listen of Part II below:
