Sweet Serendipity by Lee Dewyze Single Review: Sweet Serendipity by Lee Dewyze

Talent show winners have not experienced a good fate when it comes to chart success. We all remember how last season’s X-Factor winner Joe McElderry lost to Rage Against The Machine’s ‘Killing In The Name’ in the battle for the #1 spot in the charts during Christmas. Such unlucky fate was also experienced by Lee Dewyze as his first post-Idol single, Sweet Serendipity, only peaked at #85 in the Billboard Hot 100 charts.

Sweet Serendipity is more pop than I expected. I honestly thought that Mr. Dewyze would go for a track which would showcase his folksy side. However, Sweet Serendipity does not display such side of Mr. Dewyze. Moreover, a listener who saw how Mr. Dewyze rose through the ranks and become the winner of American Idol will see how pop this track really is. I guess with Idol’s declining ratings (a huge understatement), Mr. Dewyze’s record label decided to release a track that is very radio-friendly instead of releasing a track that could showcase the talent of the musician to a great effect.

Fans of Lee Dewyze will feel a bit confused after their first listen of the track. I guess the record labels won this battle. Seriously though, there are better artists out there who can do much more impressive material that sound so similar to Sweet Serendipity. I guess there is always a next time.
