This is the third part of the blog’s list of memorable songs in the year 2010. As promised, the third part of the list will be published today. You can check the site for the two parts that were previously published. Anyway, let us get the ball rolling for the third part of the list.
#80 Round and Round – Selena Gomez & The Scene
From: A Year Without Rain
This is the second Selena Gomez track to appear on the list. Round and Round, produced by Kevin Rudolf, features synths that throb like those embedded in dance records but only with more pizzazz. The catchiness of the track also helps and just proves that Selena is not your typical Disney actress who ventures into the music industry just because of her stardom and does not have anything to show for it.
From: Eliza Doolittle
Infusing classical musical elements into her material has made me respect Eliza Doolittle a lot. Pack Up will really remind you of music that was most likely played lots of times during the teenage days of your grandparents. What Eliza Doolittle has done is clearly effective though. Try listening to the track to hear for yourself.
From: Headlines
The version of Higher that is in this list is not the remix featuring Flo Rida. I absolutely think that version was utterly horrendous. Anyway, the ‘original’ version with no traces of Flo Rida in it makes it into this list simply because the track gave me hopes that the girls can still release more awesome material in the future. The chorus makes this track very explosive in lots of ways, I have to tell you.
From: 3 Words
Cheryl Cole’s Parachute makes it into the list at #77. The track which was penned by Ingrid Michaelson may have been the best track of her debut solo LP 3 Words. The military marching band beat that is in the track is absolutely lovely and made me listen to the track repeatedly without hesitation.
#76 Waka Waka (This Time For Africa) – Shakira feat. Freshlyground
From: World Cup 2010 Soundtrack
“Zamina mina eh eh / Waka waka eh eh” These lines may still be ringing in the ears of passionate soccer fans who watched this year’s World Cup. Shakira’s material for the sporting event is definitely LSS-worthy and the video may even make the viewer dance.
#75 Pretty Girl Rock – Keri Hilson
From: No Boys Allowed
This is obviously a girl anthem that intends to uplift the spirit of women everywhere but hey, I like Miss Keri’s latest offering from her latest album No Boys Allowed. Lyrically, the track packs a lot of punch. The piano that is embedded in the track’s beat is also a welcoming presence.
#74 Heartbeat – Enrique Iglesias feat. Nicole Scherzinger
From: Euphoria
One word: CHEMISTRY. Enrique and Nicole definitely showed in this track that they can work together as artists. The music video of the track is also scorching hot. The repetition of the lines “I can feel your heartbeat / She said to me” may be annoying for some but for me, it is simply effective and added more charm into the track.
#73 Memories – David Guetta feat. Kid Cudi
From: One Love
Kid Cudi teamed up with French DJ David Guetta for Memories, one of the many cuts released from the latter’s One Love album. Memories features the usual David Guetta production enhanced by Cudi’s mellow vocals. The track is one of the best in Guetta’s album. The sound may be repetitive but there is no denying that the track’s vibe can get one hooked.
#72 All Night Long – Alexandra Burke feat. Pitbull
From: Overcome
I may not be Pitbull’s biggest fan but his presence in the ‘single version’ of Alexandra Burke’s All Night Long was a major boost. Alexandra showed through the track that given the opportunity, she can be a disco diva. The track is definitely a dance stomper. I just hope Alexandra delivers that mindblowing track soon.
From: Flesh Tone
Kelis rebranded herself as a dance diva this year. Her latest album, Flesh Tone, may not have the commercial success that it deserves but the tracks are really worthy of your praise. Acapella is one of them. What makes the track interesting is that it was produced by Will.i.am. Yes, you read that right. Will.i.am actually produced this track. I just hope produces more tracks like this instead of butchering classic songs *ehemDirtyBitehem*
This ends Part III. Again, feel free to post your comments!
