As the title suggests, this is indeed the fourth part of the blog’s year-ender list of songs that made a huge mark in the year 2010. We are getting closer in finishing this list! I would love to see what you think on how the list has panned out so far. Just post a comment if you want to do so. Anyway, let us get the ball rolling!
From: Kunst
Produced by Calvin Harris, Hands is the lead single for The Ting Ting’s upcoming sophomore album, Kunst. Katie White still shows her playfulness with her lyrics in the track. The change in the duo’s sound in the single definitely surprised me though I can say that the beat is absolutely infectious.
#69 Whataya Want From Me – Adam Lambert
From: For Your Entertainment
Whataya Want From Me is, without a doubt, the most radio-friendly single in Adam Lambert’s debut studio album. The single, penned by Pink, is one of the best in Lambert’s album though its lyrics may be a bit clichéd. Pink has done her rendition on this track and you might want to check that out as well.
#68 Teenage Dream – Katy Perry
From: Teenage Dream
“You/ Make/ Me/ Feel like I’m living a / Teen/ Age/ Dream!“ The phrasing may be utterly ridiculous but the title track of Katy Perry’s latest album is definitely one of the great tracks to come out this year. Teenage Dream is definitely better than California Gurls (which also had its share of utterly ridiculous phrasing which I do not want to discuss further) in terms of overall quality and polish.
From: The Resistance
“It could be wrong/ But it should have been right” These lines from Muse’s Resistance may be repetitive but they give the track some valued punch. Matt proclaiming “Love is our resistance” is, however, the best bit of the track. A well-structured chorus also helps and the track shows why Muse is one of the best bands that ever existed.
#66 Undercover Martyn – Two Door Cinema Club
From: Tourist History
This single by Two Door Cinema Club does remind me of another great band which is Bloc Party. As I have said before, the upbeat nature of Undercover Martyn makes the track very ace. What makes the track even better is the fact that Alex Trimble’s vocals perfectly fit into the song.
#65 Cooler Than Me – Mike Posner
From: 31 Minutes To Takeoff
This is one of the few great tracks in Mike Posner’s debut album. Cooler Than Me possesses a lot of swagger from the man who might be the next big thing in the R&B genre. Without a doubt, the track is one of the coolest R&B jams to come out this year and that is the reason why it is on the list.
#64 Like A G6 – Far East Movement feat. The Cataracs and Dev
From: Free Wired
As some of you may know, Far East Movement is the only Asian group who have topped the international charts. That is quite an accomplishment. Like A G6 is infectious hip-hop with lots of pizzazz in it. The lyrics may look nonsense initially but honestly, they do make sense.
From: The Illusion of Safety
The best bit of this track by The Hoosiers would be “Stop giving me choices!” The synth-driven offering by The Hoosiers actually was noticed by yours truly only when he was browsing some CDs in the record shops. The single could be best described as a well-done fusion of pop and rock.
#62 The Only Exception – Paramore
From: Brand New Eyes
Paramore may be hogging the headlines recently for the departure of the Farro brothers but let us not forget that they released this exceptional song this year. I sincerely hope Paramore would create more songs like The Only Exception. Why? Paramore gets toned down in the track yet remains impressive.
From: Insatiable
If you have seen the previous parts of this year’s list, you may have noticed that Chezza’s Promise This is at #100. That only means that yes, I do think that Insatiable by Nuhdeen is better than Promise This. Insatiable showcases Nadine’s vocals perfectly. It is just sad that she does not have the chart success that she deserves.
This ends Part IV of this year’s list. Again, feel free to share your comments!
