We are finally nearing the end of the list. Part VIII will include songs that are ranked from #21 up to #30. Let us get the ball rolling now, shall we?

Happiness by Hurts 150x150 2010 A Year of Great Music Part VIII (#30 21)#30 Stay – Hurts

From: Happiness

Hurts definitely deserved being a part of BBC’s Sound of 2010 poll. Stay is most probably remembered for its backing chants of “Staaaaaay.” Lyrically, it is brilliant but another song (which will be a part of another part of this list) bfrom the duo actually is a bit more awesome than this track.

All Time Low by The Wanted 150x150 2010 A Year of Great Music Part VIII (#30 21)#29 All Time Low – The Wanted

From: The Wanted

What got me totally sold on All Time Low is its heartwarming string section. Fortunately enough, the track also has the swagger needed to back it up. This swagger is also spiced up with British production elements. Have I mentioned that I really loved the string section? Oh wait I did.

Just The Way You Are 150x150 2010 A Year of Great Music Part VIII (#30 21)#28 Just The Way You Are – Bruno Mars

From: Doo-Woops & Hooligans

This single by Bruno Mars finally established him as a credible solo musician. Some parts of Just The Way You Are may be cheesy but then the overall polish of the track is pretty remarkable. The vocals of Bruno Mars effectively get displayed in the track. The production is done well too, I have to say.

Higher Taio Cruz Kylie Minogue 150x150 2010 A Year of Great Music Part VIII (#30 21)#27 Higher – Taio Cruz feat. Kylie Minogue

From: Rokstarr

First, the version of Higher with Travie McCoy in it is not better than the version with Kylie Minogue in it. Second, I have to say that Taio did a remarkable job in choosing Kylie as the artist to collaborate with for the new version of Higher. Third, I still cannot get enough of this track. Last but not the least, please do not tell me that the “Travie McCoy version” is more superior than this one. Just do not.

Recovery by Eminem 150x150 2010 A Year of Great Music Part VIII (#30 21)#26 Love The Way You Lie – Eminem feat. Rihanna

From: Recovery

Rihanna again barges into the list with Love The Way You Lie. This has to be one of the best collaborations in the year 2010. Eminem plus Rihanna equals brilliance. The lyrics are smart (finally, Eminem started penning good songs again) and the beat is quite infectious as well.

Airplanes 150x150 2010 A Year of Great Music Part VIII (#30 21)#25 Airplanes – B.o.B. feat. Hayley Williams

From: The Adventures of B.o.B.

This is one of the pleasant surprises that 2010 brought. Hayley Williams, the lead vocalist of Paramore, lent a hand to rapper B.o.B in the track Airplanes. The end result is a track that could be described as highly fantastic. I guess the star of this track is really Hayley Williams. She added depth to a track that would have went as something one-dimensional without her presence.

Whats My Name by Rihanna 150x150 2010 A Year of Great Music Part VIII (#30 21)#24 What’s My Name – Rihanna feat. Drake

From: Loud

The overall vibe of this track may be generic but heck, it definitely works. This offering by Rihanna made me wish that she better not venture into creating material like those included in her Rated R album. Drake’s rapping does not even overpower Rihanna’s vocals in the track which is a plus. I honestly prefer this track over Only Girl (In The World).

Doubt 150x150 2010 A Year of Great Music Part VIII (#30 21)#23 Doubt – Delphic

From: Acolyte

Back when I heard this track from Delphic, I considered it as something that is “absolutely fresh.” The same sentiment pretty much still applies until now. The chaps from Manchester made use of energized and fast drums to create Doubt‘s lovable pace. I still think that Delphic can get better and with tracks like Doubt present, there is no reason for one to stop hoping.

The ArchAndroid by Janelle Monae 150x150 2010 A Year of Great Music Part VIII (#30 21)#22 Cold War – Janelle Monae

From: The ArchAndroid

I only heard this track from Janelle Monae last month. Yes, I have to admit I was late in hearing this impressive track from Miss Monae. Cold War sounds pure soul initially but then elements from other genres start kicking in all of a sudden yet the track’s quality does not get compromised. It is just disappointing that Cold War did not even get considerable chart success.

Starry Eyed 150x150 2010 A Year of Great Music Part VIII (#30 21)#21 Starry Eyed – Ellie Goulding

From: Lights

Ellie Goulding never ceases to amaze me. Her first single Under The Sheets made the list last year and this time, it’s Starry Eyed‘s turn. The vocal magic that Ellie Goulding had in the track definitely blew me away. This is the track that got me convinced that Ellie’s vocals are rich and purely authentic.

Twenty songs are left. Stay tuned for the final twenty songs in this year’s list.
