May remind you of: Girls Aloud and The Saturdays
It has been a long time since I have done posts such as this. Since there is still a shortage of amazing girl groups (well, the awaited comeback of Girls Aloud still looks shady at best due to lack of details), I ended up searching for another girl group that has the capability to amaze me.
As a result, I ended up listening to an Irish girlband named Wonderland.
Who exactly are Wonderland?
Wonderland, as I have said, is an Irish girlband managed by Louis Walsh (yes, the X-Factor judge) and Westlife member Kian Egan. The girlband has five members, namely: Jodi Albert (who actually became Egan’s wife in 2009), Sharon Condon, Corrina Durran, Leigh Learmont, and Kasey Smith. The five women passed through an audition process and eventually became Wonderland.
Wonderland has already released an EP entitled Introduction to Wonderland which includes debut single Not A Love Song. Not A Love Song actually possesses a country swagger that can be felt via the track’s lyrics (“If you gonna write a love song, I don’t wanna hear one” and “If you really wanna use your mouth, why don’t you kiss me instead?“anyone?). The track does feel like it came from another country group (Lady Antebellum) or from another famous country singer (Taylor Swift) which somehow lessens the value of the track. However, that does not mean Not A Love Song is utter crap because Not A Love Song is actually a very passable effort from Wonderland. So yes, it is a good effort but not an earth-shattering track that many people claim. It does feel bland in spots and perhaps, a catchier single just like those released by Girls Aloud and The Saturdays would have made things better.

Recently, the group released a video of their latest single Starlight. Fortunately, Starlight is a much stronger track than the bland-in-spots Not A Love Song. Starlight is definitely catchier than Not A Love Song. The former is also better than the latter in almost every aspect imaginable. There is no dull moment in Starlight and without a shadow of a doubt, this should have been the debut single of the group. The group still has a lot of work to do if they want to match the success of Girls Aloud but this is a big step towards the right direction.
