One of my fondest memories involving Miss Joanna Levesque, more known for music aficionados as the lovely JoJo, would be seeing her flaunt her impressive vocal chops in Baby It’s You (I still prefer the version with Bow Wow who was known as Lil Bow Wow then). Here was an impressive teenager who had the polish that may remind the listener of established artists. Vocally, JoJo was the bomb. She definitely had it going. Her album was crisp and definitely was one of my favorites then.
However, that was the JoJo of old.
So is there something massive going on with this ‘reincarnated’ version of JoJo?
Yes and they all end up on the positive side of the spectrum. As the years progress, maturity comes and this is proven in JoJo’s latest effort The Other Chick. Vocally, there has been more polish added – definitely a product of her age so to speak. The Other Chick will make your heads turn and also make you wonder why JoJo suddenly went AWOL in the music industry.
The Other Chick is a very crispy pop track. The “la la la la la bam bam” parts are actually okay. They were much better than what I expected. The drums add a well-defined layer of sharpness into the track – setting the tempo very well in the process. The power vocals are refreshing as well, if I have to add.
So what does The Other Chick prove? We need Joanna Levesque to release a new album. Her impressive vocals are one of a kind. We do not want to see those vocals go to waste definitely. So please, release a new album already. We would be very grateful, Miss Levesque.
Definitely better than: In The Dark
Just as impressive as: Baby It’s You
Not as good as: Too Little Too Late
Label: Interscope Records
